"Why I'm Building Build Better Dads" (And Where This Is Going)

"Why I'm Building Build Better Dads" (And Where This Is Going)

I am launching Build Better Dads to help you lead your family with purpose. Learn why character matters more than possessions.

Many dads get caught up in providing for their family through material things, but the real work of fatherhood happens when we focus on the person our children are becoming. This video explores my own journey and the realizations that led me to launch this channel, aiming to share the lessons I have learned along the way.

Moving away from the pressure to just provide, I want to discuss the importance of intentional parenting and how we can foster resilience and integrity in our kids. Through this channel, I hope to provide the dad motivation needed to navigate the challenges of raising children in today's world. By prioritizing character building over material wealth, we can create a stronger foundation for our families.

When your kids are 40 years old and somebody asks them what their father gave them, what do you want them to say? Not what you bought them, what you built into them. I've made over 50 videos here and I haven't told you what I'm actually building or where you fit in. That's what this video is for today. You just got off shift, your kids are asleep, your money's tight, and some nights you sit up wondering if you're getting this father thing right. I'm building this thing for you, and I'm still on the road myself. I started this channel in October 2025. I had another channel before that, Raising Carter Podcast. There was a lot of videos with me and Carter, but I didn't believe that channel is exactly what we needed as working dads. So I pivoted to this channel. I'm not trying to be rich, I'm not trying to be famous. I'm trying to have a channel for me. For me five years ago, ten years ago. What I needed, and that's what we're building here. I'm a working dad. I've worked third shift for 18 years, the graveyard shift, whatever you want to call it. I know what it's like when money is tight and you come home and your kids are asleep, or you gotta get them off to school, and then you gotta try to get some sleep and get up and do it all over again. Every man needs a purpose, and this is my purpose because I know what you're going through. Whether it's money problems, I'm currently going through bankruptcy, chapter 13. $118,000 I owe. Paid off more than $60,000, but hell, I still got over $50,000 to go. So I know what it's like. But along the way, I started seeing gaps in my own parenting, what I learned, and I knew from being a father of adult children that I needed to be a better father this time. Not being a hypocrite, not being someone who just points the fingers and says, You guys need to be do better. I decided I needed to do better also. My father gave me everything that he had, but I don't have to pass down every gap, every mistake that was given to me. I looked at my kids, all of them, and said, I'm not gonna pass down those same gaps. It's only 129 subscribers. So some videos work and most of videos don't work, but I'm still raising a family. I'm still working every day, 10 hours, 12 hours a day, weekends. So I'm actually documenting what I'm going through and what I'm learning every day as a father. I'm not standing at the finish line yelling instructions back to you. I'm actually going through it with you. I'm right there, side by side. I'm putting in the work just like you. That's what I want this channel to feel like. Not some guru talking down to working dads. I'm just another working dad going through the same things that you are. I want Bill Better Dads to be the most trusted place on the internet for working dads. I didn't say the biggest, I said the most trusted. I want this to be the place where dads can go when they need information on if their teenage son's not talking to them, if their daughter's starting to date, if they're having problems in their marriage, whether it be communication, whether it be in the bedroom, real stuff. Not because I know everything, it's because other working dads are here sharing their experiences. It's a trusted place where you can come and get info and conversation and have the conversations that we wish we would have had, somebody would have had with us 20 years ago, 30 years ago, 10 years ago. This is the place. I want any working dad to know this is the place that you come that other men know the weight that you're carrying. I just don't want a hundred thousand under the subscribe button. So books, uh, cards, affordable resources, and these resources to be available in union halls, HR offices, places where working dads can get this information if they need it. I don't want Bill Better Dads just to live inside the YouTube screen. I want Bill Better Dads to be anywhere working dads need it. What this means for my family. I want Carter to inherit not just money, but to inherit purpose, to inherit discipline, to inherit service, to inherit knowing how to have emotional intelligence. And I want Riley to inherit knowing how a man should treat her, knowing what a good man looks like. That's what I want my little girl to know. Not just me, her brothers also. And I want my wife, Erin, to know that a good man sacrifices, not just about paying bills, but about other things. Caring about how she feels, caring about how she thinks, pouring into her. That's what I want them to inherit, and that's what I want them to know. I don't want my kids to inherit a YouTube channel, I want them to inherit the proof that their father can build something that matters. And when Aaron and I are older, I don't want to look back and see that all I did was pay bills and die. I want my family to know that I was here for something. But here's what I realize: it grows when dads comment, when dads comment in reply to other people's comments, when dads share a video, when dads sent me videos to do reactions to, when dads take the information here and have the conversations with their sons or daughters and come back and say, yo, this worked. A YouTube channel is me talking to you, a community is us talking to each other. That's what I want build better dads to become. If you're gonna build this with me, I owe you something. I promise to tell you the truth even when it's uncomfortable. I promise to you to show you the journey even while I'm still living here, instead of pretending like I figured it all out. And I promise to never talk down to you because I'm walking the same road as you. Working dads don't quit on here, not on my watch. The dream is not to be famous. The dream is for working dads to stop passing down what almost broke us. For sons and daughters to leave our homes better prepared than we were. For kids to say, my father had conversations with me that nobody else had. If you're a working dad trying to give your kids something better than you were handed down, just don't watch. Come build with us. And before we go, tell me in the comments, when your kids are 40 years old and they talk about their father, what do you want them to say about you? What do you want them to tell people that you gave them? Not what you bought them, what you built in them. Write that down in the comments, and I'll see you next Sunday. Peace.
